On top of the scanner and inking the chapter, I really want to get the site skinned nicely and put extra content up. Again, without a scanner that’s a bit hard to do the second part, but the first is not something I want to try. I’m a terrible designer, I have no patience or talent for it, so if anyone knows a nice comic press theme I’d love to hear it. The gentleman friend might also be willing to make a nice, simple design if I ask him nicely, but I hate to be a burden, so we’ll see.

I used Manga Studio on this page: http://manga.smithmicro.com. Clearly I have a lot of practice to do with the software and the original scan was pretty dirty, which is why it’s so light. Future pages will be better because they weren’t redrawn so many times, this page I had some trouble with. I do like the last panel though, the tone came out well.

Run pony, run!

First page using Manga Studio.  I downloaded the trial version to see if I like it enough to keep using it.  Pretty sure I did everything the wrong way but I’ll figure it out next page.  It’s really nice to not have to make your own word balloons and panels and it’s supposed to have screen tones and concentration lines.  The product looks like something I’ll be able to make use of, assuming it doesn’t lack functionality and I haven’t realized it yet.

I decided to try showing the smoke that would be quickly filling the barn.  I also did some shading of the horse and the clothing but then left it off, preferring this look instead.  Shadowing will be done by hand in pen and shading will hold off likely until the next chapter or even volume when I have better software to work with and a more stable style.

Not much to say here, you’ll have to wait and find out what happens!

Tried shading with pen and I like the way it turned out so I think I’ll keep doing it.  Next chapter has some shading and shadowing a bit.

Daeryn just can’t leave a creature in trouble, even if it means risking her safety, but what’s about to happen?

Went for simple backgrounds in this page, because I wasn’t sure of how to best do a fire-influenced background.

Trium is very straight-forward in all her actions, including getting out of a sticky situation.  I like to imagine that, in the past, Daeryn would attempt to form a plan of attack before rushing forward but Trium would just charge ahead.  A calculating partner would better complement her look-before-leaping attitude but honestly, Daeryn acts on instinct more than anything, so their dynamic is a little weird.

A pony in trouble!  Horses get scared very easily as it is, a fire would just make that worse and when a creator of prey panics, they don’t usually act wisely to get themselves out of harm’s way.  Hence the screaming.  Good thing Daeryn is coming to his rescue…

The artwork on this page is weak, due to redrawing a lot and bad inking.  I am in serious need of some new pens unfortunately.  However, we have backgrounds!  And speed and focus lines, the latter being done by me and the former being stolen from google images.  I will have to get some software that is made for comics, like manga studio which I’ve heard good things about, else I’ll feel guilty about using that image every time.

Trium’s weapon is finally shown, you can’t really see it now, but you can safely assume that it extends and retracts.  There is some magic about it which makes some of its features possible.  Our girl doesn’t hesitate to bull rush into a situation, literally, and so many times she has proven her fearlessness in the face of danger.

Daeryn’s wrath however…she cowers before.
